New Board Members Needed!

Are you interested in serving on the Board of Directors? Do you know someone who would be a good addition to this group of committed, energetic people striving to keep the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra’s programs running smoothly? If so, we’d like to hear from you!

Board meetings are held monthly (first Wednesday of the month) with the exception of July and August. Board members also work on committees that focus on specific areas of responsibility (Musical Operations, Fund Raising, Marketing), making sure activities happen as they should. Our members come from all areas of the community, with many interests. As we enter our 78th season we are looking for people interested in and able to:

• interpret the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra’s work and values to the community, represent the orchestra, and act as a spokesperson,
• attend at least 75 percent of board meetings, committee meetings, and concerts or be excused by the board president or executive director,
• make a personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to them,
• actively participate in the fundraising activities and concert events,
• act in the best interests of the orchestra,
• stay informed about what’s going on in the orchestra, participating in and making decisions on issues, policies, and other board matters,
• work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners toward achievement of our goal

The tax-deductible portion of each $100.00 ticket to our recent event "Tasting Notes" is $50.00.

The tax-deductible portion of each $140.00 ticket to our summer Gala at SPAC is $75.00.

Please email sso2@verizon.net or call 372-2500 if you need more information.

What is the League of the SSO?

The League of the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra was organized in 1956 as a volunteer service organization to aid the Symphony. Now, more than five decades later, there are approximately 200 members working together to foster interest in and support of the Orchestra.

In addition to sponsoring Previews before each concert, conducted by Music Director Charles Schneider, receptions following the concert, and education programs within the schools, the League conducts the Stefan Scholarship Competition for high school students.

For more information, contact Marie Gorman at hat4lady@aol.com or call 372-7145.

Great Performance On Sunday!

Many thanks to the dancers from Orlando School of Dance in Schenectady who joined us on Sunday to lend their interpretation of Maestro Schneider's arrangement of Bosnian Dances. Their energy and gracefulness added to the experience of listening to music.
