The SSO holds annual blind auditions, normally in September, for open seats and/or placement on the substitute list.  This year auditions will be held on September 27, 2014, in the orchestra room at Niskayuna High School, 1626 Balltown Road, Niskayuna, NY, 12309.

As a community-based symphony orchestra, the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra includes both paid and volunteer musicians.  Individuals who wish to become a paid member or be added to the substitute list must successfully pass an audition.  Qualified musicians who wish to perform on an unpaid basis may petition to join the orchestra without a formal audition by submitting appropriate written documentation.  The documentation must include a resume with current address, contact information, music training, playing experience and at least one reference (teacher or SSO member) who can be contacted for a recommendation.

We are currently auditioning for our substitute list – if you’re interested in auditioning for the SSO substitute list we will ask you to will perform a selection of your choice that best demonstrates your level of musical performance.

If you are interested in performing with the SSO, please contact us and indicate whether you will be auditioning or submitting materials for consideration of voluntary membership.
