Composer Edward Green Returns to SSO

Topping the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra’s April 23 concert is Overture in G by Dr. Edward Green, award-winning composer and educator known for his contemporary classical music.

A professor at the Manhattan School of Music, Dr. Green teaches courses in composition, jazz history, and world music, and lectures and publishes widely.  His compositions have been performed by orchestras across the United States and in several countries overseas.

The SSO has performed his work for enthusiastic audiences in the last several years.

Aesthetic Realism is the animating force behind his music. He has written that the grand philosophic principle at its center, stated by Eli Siegel, the founder of Aesthetic Realism, with whom he studied, is: “All beauty is a making one of opposites, and the making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves.”

The structure and philosophy of Overture in G will be explored in the Pre-Concert Talk by SSO Music Director Charles Schneider at 2 pm in the Fenimore Gallery.

The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra performs Green’s Overture in G on April 23 at 3 p.m. at Proctors Theater. For tickets, call (518) 346-6204 or order online.   Seats are $20-12; students under 18 are FREE thanks to a grant from Price Chopper.
