We wrap up our 83rd season with Music in Bloom featuring Rachel Sohn, a homegrown musical talent springing into bloom. A 2016 graduate of Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, she was the winner of our 2014 Parillo Piano Competition while only a freshman. She has been first violinist of the Empire State Youth Orchestra for several years, won the Capital District Council for Young Musicians’ Chopin Master competition, and many honors. She has studied under Dr. Young Kim of the College of Saint Rose, and more recently under Benjamin Hochman of the Bard College Conservatory of Music. While still a teenager, she has performed at Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall.
Nurturing successful musical careers for talented local youths is a heartwarming mission for the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra. We are delighted to see Rachel Sohn’s artistic development and welcome her enthusiastically to share our stage.
She will perform as piano soloist in Piano Concerto No. 2 by Camille Saint-Saens. This Romantic piece from 1868 is one of the composer’s most enduringly popular.
