Musical Journeys – 2015-2016 Concert Season

Welcome to our 82nd Anniversary Season!  This year we’re featuring four soloists at very different stages along their musical career paths:

Lucas Button HeadshotHeadshot michael_editedjim benoit

  • Lucas Button, from Syracuse,  is a 21-year-old cellist in his fourth year at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, heading for graduate school at Eastman in the fall. He will perform Dvorak’s  Cello Concerto in B minor;
  • Denver area native and current Skidmore undergraduate Joseph Eisele will perform Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Flat Major;
  • Concertmaster Michael Emery is a frequent soloist with several orchestras in the Upstate New York region including the Catskill, Schenectady, and Glens Falls Symphony Orchestras. In addition to his teaching positions at Skidmore College and the College of St. Rose, Michael teaches privately in his studios in Saratoga Springs.  He’ll present Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in the intimate setting of the GE Theater;
  • Niskayuna native Jim Benoit returns from the Sarasota Opera where he’s been since earning his master’s degree from Juilliard.  In 2005 he earned Second Place in the League of the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra’s Stefan Scholarship Competition for high school students. He’ll perform Emmanuel Sojome’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings.

We’re excited to be able to provide performance opportunities for such highly talented artists within our community, both young and more established.
