Auditions for the 2017-2018 Season – Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 7-9PM

As a community-based symphony orchestra, the SSO consists of both paid and volunteer musicians. Individuals who wish to become a paid member or paid substitute must successfully pass an audition. We hold blind annual auditions for open seats and/or placement on the substitute list.

This season’s auditions will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from approximately 7 to 9 pm. The auditions will take place at Proctors, The Addy.  This is the new 3rd floor rehearsal space at Proctors.  Access via elevator across from Box Office on the main level.

Auditions are held before Music Director Charles Schneider and several orchestra members.

The following positions are currently open:

  •  Tuba

  •  Viola

  •  Cello

To request excerpts for audition please email schenectadysymphony@gmail.com

We will also hold auditions for our sub list. Musicians auditioning for the sub list should prepare and play a selection(s) of their choice that best demonstrates their level of musical performance. We suggest preparing one or more orchestral excerpts for part of your audition. Additionally, your performance should demonstrate contrasting musical performance styles (technical and lyrical).

Qualified musicians who wish to perform on an unpaid basis may petition to join the orchestra without a formal audition.  Please send us a resume with current address, contact information, music training, playing experience and at least one reference (teacher or SSO member) who can be contacted for a recommendation, either by email  or snail mail: Schenectady Symphony Orchestra,  432 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12305

To schedule an audition please email our Personnel Manager at schenectadysymphony@gmail.com
