Oh, What A Beautiful Morning!

We were so very fortunate to have a beautiful morning again this Sunday for our Classical Breakfast at River Stone Manor in Scotia.  With music from A Touch Of Woodwinds, led by SSO principal clarinetist Tom Gerbino, along with principal flute Beth Chinery, principal oboe Sue Kokernak, bassoonist Mel Toub and horn player Josh Thompson, nearly a hundred guests enjoyed the glorious views, continental breakfast, and good company for a relaxed morning under the tent.  During the break, retired SSO member Ted Mihran brought out his violin to serenade patrons as he strolled from table to table.  This is one of our favorite summer activies – just a pleasant summer morning of pastries, fruit and music ranging from Berlin, Bernstein and Joplin to Back, Mozart, Grieg and Shostakovich.

In many ways this event brings people together – it’s only through the efforts of many people that we can hold it at all.  From the musicians’ performance, Price Chopper’s donated bagels and cream cheese, and financial support from long-time sponsors Florence and Rhoda Luborsky of Schenectady VanCurler Music, and members of our honorary committee – each contribution goes toward making this event so beloved by those who attend.

We are delighted to offer another outdoor summer classical event – our Gala.  We have the great fortune to be able to enjoy the wonderful Philadelphia Orchestra in their summer home here at Saratoga Performing Arts Center – what a terrific resource for orchestral music fans.

This festive evening includes dinner at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Spa State Park, followed by a performance from the Philadelphia Orchestra with a magnificent program:

Berlioz’ Carnival Overture,

Rossini’s William Tell Overture,

Respighi’s Pines of Rome and

Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto

with soloist Alisa Weilerstein.

Gala tickets are $140.00 per person (includes a $70 donation to the SSO) and are available until July 25. Reserve online or email for more information .

Come join us as we celebrate a classical summer!
