With the retirement of long time Music Director and Conductor Charles Schneider, the Board of Directors of the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra is beginning a search for the next Music Director and Conductor to fill the role. Schneider will step down effective June 30th, 2018 and assume the position of Music Director Emeritus on July 1st.
The Board has hired local educator and newly named Dean of the School of Music at Schenectady County Community College, Brett Wery, to guest conduct its two summer pops concerts; July 3rd at Mabee Farms as part of Schenectady County’s July 4th Celebration, and August 11th at Music Haven in Central Park. Schneider has been invited back to conduct the Symphony’s opening concert of the 85th Season at Proctors Theater on October 22nd which will feature a tribute to Leonard Bernstein.
A Search Committee has been formed and will be begin reviewing applications in the fall. Certain candidates will be given the opportunity to guest conduct the orchestra during its regular season concerts at Proctors in January, March and May. The Board anticipates making a final choice and announcing the new Music Director at the start of the 86th season on July 1, 2019.
The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra is a community-based symphony orchestra founded in 1934. Our goals are to provide cultural enrichment, music education and appreciation and a home for the talents of accomplished musicians in the community.
