Young Pianist Awarded Honor

The 2014 Parillo Piano Competition was held on Saturday, May 3 at the Schenectady County Community College School of Music. The winner was Rachel Sohn, a 9th grader from Clifton Park. Rachel attends Shenendehowa High School and her piano teacher is Dr. Young Kim of the College of St. Rose. Rachel performed the Chopin Scherzo No. 4 Op. 54 in E Major as her elective.

Many thanks to Prof. Allyson Keyser of SCCC and Prof. Tim Olsen of Union College for generously serving as adjudicators. Their insightful comments have been forwarded to the competitors and should enable them to further their musical growth.

Thanks to Mark Evans for serving as the intermediary between SSO and SCCC for so many years. We are truly fortunate to have access to the beautiful SCCC School of Music facilities.

Finally, thanks to Maryann Gulyas, Mardy Moore and Marie Gorman for serving as volunteers.
